Today we can find the history and the art of Venice in its many traditions: from its traditional festivities inherited from the splendour of the sea power Republic traditions, to its traditional kitchen, influenced by Venetian maritime trade with the East and by the many populatins settled in Venice along the centuries. Carnival is one of the oldest traditional feasts of Venice, rooted in the history and the culture of the most unique city in the world. Re-launched two decades ago, thanks to its mix of transgression, art, and fun, today the Carnival of Venice is considered by its inhabitants and tourists as an event not to be missed.

Saint Mark day

Saint Mark's day it's on the 25th of april. In this day Venice celebrates Saint Mark, the patron saint of the city. The 25th of april Italy celebrates also its freedom from the war and the fascism and nazism. 

The Sensa day

It’s in May, on the Ascension day, (Sensa in venetian) to commemorate two Venician historical victories.

Vogalonga

Vogalonga it’s a spring celebration, born in the ’90 thanks to some Venicians, to remember "Serenissima" traditions and to point citizens and authorities attention at the problem of waves’ movement in Venice.

The Palio of the Ancient Maritime Republics

It's a yearly boat race between the four Italian Maritime Republics that sailed the seas in medieval times. It's hosted, in turn, on the Mediterranean sea at Amalfi and Genoa, on the Arno in Pisa and on the lagoon in Venice, to celebrate the history and memories of the four maritime cities.

The Venice Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival  is the oldest Film Festival in the World, and takes place every year in early September on the Lido island, in the historic Palazzo del Cinema on the Lungomare Marconi, in Venice. The first edition of the Venice Film Festival took place in 1932, together with the 18.Venice Biennale, the major biennial exhibition for contemporary art, after an idea of Conte Giuseppe Volpi.

The Historical Regata

The Historical Regata is one of the most picturesque and moving tradition festivities of Venice, attracting Venetians and tourists every year.

A city like Venice, that has always maintained contacts both with the inland and with diverse and faraway countries, presents in its culinary tradition a variety of dishes linked to the different origins of ingredients.

Bacari and cicheti

In Venice there is a lot of bar, 'bacari' and 'osterie'. The oldest are at Rialto, all around the fruit and vegetables market. Others are long Garibaldi Street in Castello 'sestiere' and long Strada Nuova

Carnevale: mai come in questo periodo il proverbio semel in anno licet insanire pare adattarsi alla realtà di una città in festa; non solo maschere, ma leccornie dolci che fanno la gioia dei golosi ed anche di chi sarebbe tendenzialmente portato alla lontananza da calorie in eccesso. Impossibile davvero poter resistere alle dolci tentazioni che sotto forma di frittelle, quelle autentiche veneziane, alla crema o zabaione, castagnole o galani sottili, spessi, al forno o fritti nell’olio e cosparsi di un impalpabile, ma strepitoso zucchero a velo, magari leggermente profumato di vaniglia…

Il Ponte di Rialto tra storia e natura

E se passeggiando a Venezia, attraversando il Canal Grande a Rialto ci capitasse di far scivolare la mano sulla balaustra del ponte, così liscia e  priva d' attrito, levigata da milioni di altre mani che prima della nostra hanno accarezzato il suo bianco declivio…potremmo di dire di aver toccato la Storia di Venezia ma anche qualcosa che va oltre …oltre la Storia.

The Art of Glass

The Venetian artisan artistic activity is identified by glass manufacturing and has got a thousand years old history, having reached the lagoon even before the Roman settlement and then getting developed through frequent contacts of Byzantine masters of glass-making at the time of the Fourth crusade.

Gondolas, poppets and oars

Gondola or rather an ark, or a chest, from ancient Greek etymon. Maybe a closed space, protected, within which few precious riches had been kept belonging to the first inhabitants of the lagoon. Attrezzi della Laguna: la pesca

La Repubblica della Serenissima aveva emanato una serie di leggi a regolamentare l'attività della pesca, essendo quest'ultima una delle principali attività veneziane.
La regolamentazione riguardava non solo l'attività di pesca in sé, ma anche le attrezzature utilizzate. 

Le Saline

I primi abitanti della laguna furono i profughi delle città in fuga dai barbari, gente abituata al benessere e alla ricchezza e che improvvisamente si trovava in un ambiente ostile e non coltivabile.
L’unica attività che consentiva la sopravvivenza era il commercio e la navigazione con le genti di Dalmazia, Istria e Ravenna, soggette a Bisanzio.
