The Murano Glass Museum is showcasing the island’s glass factories by displaying their work, selected on the basis of quality and innovation, in the Conteria area of Murano, famous for its historic glass bead production.

The selected works will be on show in the museum and adjacent garden, creating a contemporary itinerary focused on current Murano glass production, which confirms its unique creative identity and is synonymous with the island’s artistic vigour. The selection will incorporate not only decorative glassware, but also functional and design pieces, providing an opportunity to discover the evolution of this extraordinary industrial sector, both in technical and specifically aesthetic terms. The project aims to promote and communicate greater knowledge of a history and a heritage, but above all to support the Murano glassworks in the world of international competition. The island’s excellences on display in the refurbished rooms of the Museum, will encourage a contemporary itinerary interwoven with the history and the extraordinary quality of the precious glass heritage from the Civic Museum. The exhibition has been conceived as an annual event, strengthening the link that glass represents between the island and the Museum, and will also become the stimulus for further collecting by the Museum. At the same time the exhibition will assist the visiting public in recognising and appreciating the quality and excellence of Murano glass, which today is threatened by cheap imitations of inferior aesthetic quality.
