In the middle of the island of Burano, this 16th century building has art and history’s treasures, such as the Crucifixion by Giambattista Tiepolo.
The church of St. Martin, bishop of Tours, became parish church after the 1000. It took the actual shape between the XVI and the XVII century and it was consacrated on 29th October 1645 by the bishop of Torcello, Marco Antonio Martinengo. Over the years it was restored several times. In May 1913, a severe fire destroyed the main aisle and the pipe organ.In October of the same year, the pipe organ was substituted with the actual one by the company Mascioni di Cuvio. The former one was created by Callidio in 1767 and it was considered to be one of the greatest masterpieces of the churches of the Serenissima Republic.
From the outside, the church has not a main entrance. The only entrance is situated laterally and the door is in the Renaissance style. The interior is in the Lombard-baroque style and has a latin cross map, with three aisles that end with a chapel. They are divided by Neoclassical columns that support round arches. The columns end with Corinthian capitals.
