Rebuilt during the first half of ‘500 under the project of Scarpagnino, the church is a little jewel decorated in all its parts with works by Paolo Veronese. The masterpieces of this great artist from Verona make this church a fundamental destination in Venice.

The church of San Sebastiano, built in ‘400 and of the guild of Padri Gerolimini, was renovated from the 14th century by Antonio Abbondi known as Scarpagnino, who turned the church into its current shape.
The church represents one of the most important place for Venetian art, since it brings back together the most extraordinary corpus of works by Paolo Caliari, known as Veronese. Painted between 1555 and 1565 in obedience of the friar Bernardo Torlioni’s will the Veronese’s works decorates the ceiling, the nave and the presbytery walls, the sacristy, the barco (the suspended choir of nuns), and the pipe organ doors.
Its Latin cross plan interior has just one nave, preceded by an atrium and a choir; a dome covers the presbytery. Some worthy canvas can also be found on the ceiling, such as: Storie della regina Ester, painted in 1556, on the suspended choir Vita di San Sebastiano and on the altarpiece (1570) Madonna in gloria con San Sebastiano e altri santi.
The church, really a mausoleum of Veronese, treasures the remains of the master, who was buried here in 1588.
Other noteworthy works are the ones by Bonifacio de' Pitati and by Tintoretto, San Nicolò by Tiziano (1563) and some other works by Paris Bordone, Jacopo Sansovino, Jacopo Palma il Giovane and Alessandro Vittoria.
