The Archeological Museum in Saint Mark’s Square has an important collection of Greek and Roman sculptures, gems and coins. It includes also the archeological collection of the Correr Museum, which is Egyptian and Assyro-Babylonian antiques.

Established in 1523 after the bequest of the cardinal Domenico Grimani, who gave the Serenissima Republic antiques marbles and bronzes. The Museum is based on donations given by rich Venetian families. Besides the many Greek sculptures, in the museum there are also architectural fragments , epigraphs, marbles and busts, little bronze sculptures, pottery, jewels, Etruscan, Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Roman relics, gems, ivories and a coins collection (with coins of the 3rd and 1st century b.C.). Of great interest the portraits of the Roman Emperors. Inside the museum, which is a municipal one, there is a part of the archeological collection of the Correr Museum, with some relics of the Neolithic and Bronze age, Egyptian and Assyro-Babylonian antiques, Greek, Etruscan and Roman art.

A single ticket valid for the Doge’s Palace and the combined itinerary of Museo Correr, Museo Archeologico Nazionale and Monumental Rooms of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana.
