The Venice Film Festival is the oldest Film Festival in the World, and takes place every year in early September on the Lido island, in the historic Palazzo del Cinema on the Lungomare Marconi, in Venice. The first edition of the Venice Film Festival took place in 1932, together with the 18.Venice Biennale, the major biennial exhibition for contemporary art, after an idea of Conte Giuseppe Volpi.
Today the Venice Film Festival is one of the world's most prestigious film festivals, along with Cannes Film Festival, and Berlin Film Festival.
Its main award is the Leone d'Oro (Golden Lion). From its first edition to its most recent, the Venice Film Festival has become a famous stage for italian and foreign celebrities, actors and directors, that come here every year to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Lido, with its elegant palaces and hotels, usually quiet and silent, but crowded with people from all over the world during the festival days.
