The painting exposition inside the Accademia Galleries is the most important collection of Venetian painting from the XIV to the XVIII century.
A very rich collection of Venetian paintings from Veneto as well, from the Bizantine and Gothic XIV century to the artists of the Renaissance, Bellini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Veronese, Tintoretto and Tiziano until Gianbattista Tiepolo and the Vedutisti of the eighteenth century, Canaletto, Guardi, Bellotto, Longhi. These artists will influence the whole history of European painting.
Founded in 1807 to gather the paintings from churches and ecclesiastical institutions closed during the Napoleonic supremacy, the Accademia Galleries enriched over time thanks to donations and acquisitions.
The itinerary starts on the first floor with panels and polyptychs of the XIV and XV century by Paolo and Lorenzo Veneziano, Michele Giambono, Niccolò di Pietro, Jacobello del Fiore, Gentile da Fabriano, Pisanello, Michele di Matteo.
Then follow the halls dedicated to the “eight teleri” of the Miracoli della Reliquia della Croce (1494-1501) by Gentile Bellini and Vittore Carpaccio and to the “nine teleri” by Carpaccio with the Leggenda di S. Orsola (1490-1495 ca.). Sebastiano del Piombo, Giovanni Bellini with his unforgettable Madonnas, Giorgione (La Tempesta), Cima da Conegliano (Madonna dell'Arancio), Mantegna (S. Giorgio), Piero della Francesca (S. Girolamo adorato dal donatore), Cosmè Tura (Madonna col putto) mark the passage from the XV to the XVI century represented by the work by Tiziano (Pietà e Presentazione della Vergine al Tempio), Paris Bordon, il Veronese (Convito in casa di Levi), Lorenzo Lotto, Palma il Vecchio, Palma il Giovane, Tintoretto (Vita di S. Marco).
Then the museum skip to the Baroque and Rococo with Bernardo Strozzi, Luca Giordano, Marco Ricci, Giuseppe Zais e Francesco Zuccarelli.
Other names to mention regarding the XVIII century are Giambattista and Giandomenico Tiepolo, Giovan Battista Piazzetta (Indovina), Sebastiano Ricci, the view by Francesco Guardi and by Canaletto (Prospettiva con portico), the pastels by Rosalba Carriera, the scenes by Pietro Longhi and some sketches by Antonio Canova.
Annexed to the galleries, the Cabinet of drawings with about 3thousand drawings of graphic of the Venetian, Lombard, Emilian and Umbrian school.
